Media report from the Vatican stated that the medical condition of Pope Francis who has been battling pneumonia for more two weeks is now improving.
On Friday morning, the Vatican said that he would remain in the hospital due to a complicated clinical picture. It further stated that the 88-year-old had another “peaceful night” and is “now resting” at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
The pontiff was said to be out of the “critical phase” according to Italian news agency Ansa.
Recall that the Pope was brought to the hospital on February 14 after having breathing problems for a few days. He was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs after initially receiving treatment for bronchitis.
The Pope had a respiratory crisis on February 22 and was in “critical” health, according to the Vatican, but an update was published on Sunday stating that he had “not presented any further respiratory crises.”
The Pope later issued a message requesting that Catholics pray for him when he was unable to conduct the usual Angelus prayer in person for the second consecutive week.
As Catholics around the world continue to pray for the pope’s recovery, the Diocese of Rome’s vicar general, Cardinal Baldassare Reina, celebrated Mass in the Church of San Marcello al Corso on Thursday for the Holy Father’s “gift of health.”
