Snoop Dogg has stirred up debate after admitting he feels uneasy about the way LGBTQ+ storylines are being worked into children’s movies. Speaking on the It’s Giving podcast, the 53-year-old rapper said he is now “scared to go to the movies” with his grandkids because of scenes he didn’t expect.
He recalled taking his grandson to see Pixar’s 2022 release Lightyear, the Toy Story spin-off that features Buzz Lightyear’s backstory alongside a same-sex couple subplot.
What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said. “They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’
Snoop admitted the moment caught him off guard.
I thought at the time, ‘Oh sh–, I didn’t come in for this sh–. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.
He said his grandson kept pressing him with questions:
They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby?’”
Reflecting on the experience, Snoop added:
It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?’” he continued.
These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.

Lightyear features Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) in a relationship with her partner Kiko, including a montage of them getting married and raising a child. A same-sex kiss was initially removed by Disney but reinstated after Pixar staff protested.
Snoop’s remarks have since sparked backlash, with some LGBTQ+ supporters calling for him to be dropped as the headline act at the upcoming Australian Football League Grand Final.
The rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has previously been criticized for comments deemed homophobic and transphobic — including calling Caitlyn Jenner a “science project” and using a slur in a 2014 social media post.
