Obstacles On The Road To Fulfillment (A Must Read)

Fulfilment is the indication that one has arrived at the shore of results; the achievement of one’s ambitions or objective. It’s consistently regarded as the pinnacle of reaching a condition of contentment, happiness, and life’s purpose.

Every human looks for fulfillment in diverse areas of life, including but not limited to their careers, marriages, and academic pursuits. And most importantly, one must exert effort, before reaching this landmark.

The question to you now is, how fulfilled are you in all the goals you planned to achieve in this outgoing year? What have you achieved so far? If there hasn’t been any fulfillment yet, what were/are the obstacles holding you back from getting to the level of fulfillment?

Back to my point. It’s important to note that the road to fulfillment is rarely smooth. It may be short or long but it’s not always full of roses.
Here are several clogs to the wheels of progress on this path.

  1. Fear or Lack of Confidence: Fear of failure or a lack of confidence in one’s own potentials are two of the most common barriers to fulfillment. Many people stop themselves from following their goals because they are scared of what other people may think or say about them, or because they doubt their own abilities. To overcome this self-imposed limitation, one must have faith and confidence in their own skills. Believe! Banish fear from your consciousness!
  2. Inelasticity of plans: If you are unable to make room for another essential plan beyond the ones you have in the box, you will run out of ideas to support or foster your goal. Plans should occasionally be flexible, and planners should be proactive/dynamic in achieving their objectives. Sometimes additional plans are needed to ensure you arrive at the fulfillment shore of your ambition. Despite the fact that a vehicle has four tyres, there’s always a provision for an extra tyre. It’s needed when one of the four disappoints on the road.
  3. Loss of Focus/Giving in to distractions: Constant gazing to one’s goals is needed to sail through to fulfillment. A little response to ‘hello’ from distractions (from either internal or external demons) can make a ship of your efforts to capsize. When it’s time to eat, eat but still focus on your goals. Don’t eat and forget your goals.
  4. Unclear Goals: Clear goals with clear plans are obtainable goals. Fulfillment comes from having a sense of direction and purpose, but without a defined vision, it’ll be difficult to take steps toward it. Without clear ‘achievable’ goals, it’s easy to feel lost in the process of achieving them.
  5. Societal Pressure: Friends, family, and society at large have different perspectives about what success and happiness should look like. This puts pressure on people to fit in. As a result, they may become distracted from following their actual passions and end up on routes that will not be aligned with their goals. Many who had plans to become great in one ‘unpopular’ profession jumped ignorantly into another because of the pull of pressure from friends or family members. These are the type of people that set many goals but can’t achieve any of them. They’re easily tossed about. They set a goal, but at the wink of an eye (the pressure), they jumped into another just to massage the ego of others. It’s sad.
  6. Negative Mindset: This actually can be a big obstacle. A negative or fixed/stagnant mindset can be a major roadblock. Having a notion that abilities are limited or that challenges are without solutions, can prevent fulfillment of goals. This type of mindset is a killer of ambition.

The obstacles on the road to fulfillment are not limited only to what are explained in this article. There are many other visible roadblocks out there that should also be avoided if your goals must meet and marry fulfillment.

Remember, the path to fulfillment is rewarding even though it is difficult.
It is through the acknowledgement and elimination of these obstacles that you can achieve a fulfilled life full of meaning and purpose.
