Mike Tyson-Jake Paul round-by-round analysis

Round 8: The crowd starts a Tyson chant, and Paul silences them with a series of jabs. Tyson sneaks in a left hand. Paul is becoming a little more aggressive with a minute left. The crowd is showering the ring with boos. A right hand from Paul connects and backs Tyson into the ropes. Paul appears to take his foot off the gas and bows to Tyson as the fight comes to an end. They embrace and the crowd begins to filter out of the arena. 10-9 Paul. 80-72 Paul.

Round 7: Tyson comes out swinging and the crowd reacts with approval. Nobody has sat down since the start of the fight. A big right hand from Paul lands. Tyson is strangely biting his gloves when there’s a lull in the action. A left to the body from Paul takes the steam out of Tyson. Another combination from Paul lands and shakes up Tyson as he continues to pop Tyson at will. Paul has landed 70 punches through seven rounds, Tyson just 17! Easy round for Paul. 10-9 Paul. 70-63 Paul.

Round 6: The crowd is getting behind Tyson as the fighters spend the first minute circling each other. Paul jabs to the body and flashes to the face. Paul’s jab is dictating the action, but there isn’t a ton of excitement here. The crowd isn’t thrilled with the lack of action. 10-9 Paul. 60-54 Paul.

Round 5: Paul is landing his combinations. A right hand briefly rattles Tyson. Tyson explodes with a left hook, but Paul seems unbothered. Paul is probing with the jab to find an opening and follows up with a body punch and a right hand over the top. The crowd is getting restless, and Tyson is struggling to mount much offense. 10-9 Paul. 50-45 Paul.

Round 4: Paul rushes to the center of the ring and throws the jab. A left hand lands and then a straight right from Paul lands, too. Tyson isn’t moving much anymore. Paul’s jab continues to give Tyson trouble. Tyson isn’t hurt; he just doesn’t have much to offer. 10-9 Paul. 40-36 Paul.

Round 3: Tyson rushes forward and Paul lands an overhand right. Body shot and a left hook from Paul, but Tyson is taking the punches well. Paul is starting to land with more frequency as Tyson’s legs look unsteady. Tyson is running out of steam and Paul senses that he can take control. Paul with an uppercut. A short right hand by Tyson has no effect on Paul. Best round by Paul, and Tyson looks completely gassed. 10-9 Paul. 30-27 Paul.

Round 2: Tyson pops the jab to find distance. Body punch by Paul. Paul lands a left hook, but Tyson responds with a hook of his own. Paul jabs to the body and uses his length to keep Tyson at range. Nothing substantial but Paul is controlling the action with the jab. 10-9 Paul. 20-18 Paul.

Round 1: Tyson pushes forward aggressively and lands a hard left hand that moves Paul back. Paul initiates a clinch. Upon release, Paul misses a wide hook. Paul with a stiff jab and follows with a right hand. Tyson is having a difficult time getting inside. 10-9 Paul.
