Tottenham defeated fellow Premier League strugglers Manchester United, with James Maddison scoring the game-winning goal upon his injury return.
Tottenham Hotspur won their first Premier League home game in 15 weeks thanks to James Maddison’s first-half strike, putting additional pressure on Manchester United and Ruben Amorim.
Maddison, returning from injury, was the first to react when Andre Onana could only parry Lucas Bergvall’s attempt, and he made no mistake from close range to give the hosts a merited lead in the 13th minute.
In a hectic encounter, both sides had chances, but Spurs held on for a critical three points that brought them up to 12th in the rankings and relieved some of the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.
Alejandro Garnacho had an opportunity to equalize in the first half after being through on goal but was lofted over the bar. The Red Devils are in 15th place, 12 points above the relegation zone, having lost three of their last four league games.
There are more things to be positive about for Tottenham. In addition to the victory, the injury haze is gradually dissipating.
Wilson Odobert, who went into the game in the second half and Brennan Johnson’s comebacks bolstered Postecoglou’s bench.
