Liverpool reclaimed their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings with a 2-1 victory over Wolves at Anfield.

The Reds gained control early on, when Diaz got on the end of Salah’s deflected cross and bundled it home with his stomach which ended his run of 10 games without a goal.

The Colombian then lured goalkeeper Jose Sa into a foul inside the penalty area, which Salah converted from the spot to give the team a two-goal lead before halftime.

It appeared to be a simple afternoon for Arne Slot’s side at the time, but Wolves emerged with greater attacking intent after the half, and after Alexis MacAllister blocked Matheus Cunha’s close-range shot, Alisson Becker had to be alert to deny Marshall Munetsi.

At the other end, Salah had a goal ruled out for offside, while VAR overturned a penalty that Diogo Jota thought he had won, and Liverpool were eventually punished for failing to seal the game when Cunha curled a 20-yard strike into the bottom corner.

Vitor Pereira’s side squandered numerous chances in the second half, with debutant Marshall Munetsi forcing a great one-on-one stop from Alisson before Joao Gomes exploited space brilliantly but sent his shot over the bar.

POST MATCH SLOT’S REACTION

In reaction, the hosts failed to create chances of their own, and replacement Jarell Quansah had to make a fantastic block to prevent Munetsi from scoring a late equaliser. In the end, however, there was no replay of Wednesday night’s dramatic tie at Everton, as the leaders hung on for victory.
