A lecturer was attacked and bitten by an unidentified female student after a furious argument, causing commotion at Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Faculty of Arts in Awka. The student was making a dance video in the faculty corridor when the lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, interrupted her.
The student was dancing, according to witnesses, while someone was filming her when Dr. Michael tried to walk past.
An eyewitness said: “The lecturer tapped her on the shoulder and said, ‘Excuse me,’ as he passed behind her. However, she became visibly upset and exclaimed, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’
The argument swiftly turned physical, with the student violently grabbing the lecturer’s clothing as bystanders attempted to break up the altercation.
Social media users shared a video of the event on Tuesday, showing the student yelling at the lecturer and claiming she was hit. Another video showed the student clinging to the lecturer.
When reached, Ken Chukwurah, Chief Security Officer at UNIZIK, verified the development and said the university was looking into the situation internally.
The CSO clarified that after passing by, Michael said he heard the student insulting him and went back to find out if she was one of his students.
Because he thought she was filming a TikTok video and didn’t want to be in it, he allegedly reached for her phone.
She allegedly bit him on both arms in retaliation for his request to have the video removed,” he continued. The lecturer’s arms had obvious bite marks, according to pictures that are making the rounds online.
The student in question is reportedly a history and international studies 300-level student and the daughter of a lecturer in Engineering Department at the institution.
