Authorities in Arizona reported that two small planes collided in midair Wednesday, killing two persons.
The National Transportation Safety Board has released early information about a collision that occurred at 8:28 a.m. between a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MK II near the Marana Regional Airport, just northwest of Tucson.
The single-engine aircraft “collided while upwind of runway 12,” one of the airport’s two runways.
The NTSB reported that the Lancair crashed and burned close to the other runway, while the Cessna landed.
Two fatalities from the event were confirmed by the Marana Police Department.
According to a news statement from the Town of Marana, each plane carried two passengers.
According to the Associated Press, the Cessna’s operator, AeroGuard, a commercial flight training school, said that neither of its two pilots were hurt.
According to the town, the airport is closed until the investigation is being conducted.
