On Saturday morning, a fully loaded truck (registration number: GGE 624 YJ) lost control while negotiating a steep turn and crashed off the Agege Bridge along Old Abeokuta Road, Agege, Lagos, causing panic among the residents and drivers.

According to witnesses and representatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck struck two business minibuses, referred to as “Korope,” that were parked underneath the bridge.

According to Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, initial inquiries showed that the truck driver lost control while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge, suffering severe fractures to both hands. The two busses below were crushed when the car crossed the bridge and went off.

Due to their prompt response, LASTMA personnel were able to rescue the injured driver and turn him over to Elere Police Division officers. After that, he was sent to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for immediate medical attention.

The accident site was promptly roped off and traffic was rerouted by LASTMA officers to prevent additional accidents. Normal traffic movement along the busy route was restored after the wreckage was quickly cleared by operations from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit.
