Manchester United defeated Lyon 5-4 at Old Trafford on Thursday night to secure a 7-6 aggregate victory and go to the Europa League semi-finals.
Harry Maguire completed an incredible comeback and secured a meeting with Athletic Bilbao for next month by scoring the game-winning goal in extra time.
United appeared to be coasting towards the semi-finals as they lead 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte.
Nevertheless, Lyon forced extra time despite having Corentin Tolisso sent off with a comeback in the second half. With a low effort from Rayan Cherki in the first half of extra time, Lyon completed the comeback.
Then, in the second half of extra time, Alexandre Lacazette scored a penalty putting Lyon ahead 4-2 for the evening and 5-4 overall.
But when Bruno Fernandes struck a penalty, United gave themselves a glimmer of hope. After Kobbie Mainoo tied the score for United both that evening and overall, Maguire scored a goal in the closing seconds to complete the win.
