Omoyele Sowore, a human rights advocate and former presidential canditate, and others expressed support for serving corps member Rita Uguamaye following her summons to appear before the Local Government Inspector (LGI) (after publicly criticizing President Tinubu’s administration). But after they got to the local government building, the LGI was nowhere to be seen throughout their visit.
Sowore posted a video of their arrival at the LGI office along with the following message on his X handle: “The journey with youth corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye has commenced in Lagos. She is scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys.”

Prior to this, serving corps member Rita Uguamaye had cried out when a NYSC administrator threatened her to take down a viral video in which she called President Tinubu’s government “terrible” and lamented the nation’s economic woes. Since then, the video sparked extensive conversations in Nigeria and has gained global attention, particularly after Amnesty International responded to the story.
Many prominent Nigerian politicians and citizens have overwhelmingly supported the corps member, requesting the NYSC to refrain from punishing her for voicing her opinions about the administration.
