The terrible death of former National and West African light-heavyweight champion Segun “Success” Olanrewaju, who collapsed during a fight in Ghana on Saturday, has left the boxing community in mourning.
At the Bukom Boxing Arena on Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League, Olanrewaju was facing Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu when he unexpectedly passed out.
According to reports, prior to the regrettable incident, he was ahead on points.
Fans and the boxing community were further shocked when he slumped in the ring, as captured in a widely shared social media video.
Olanrewaju, a well-known and esteemed figure in Nigerian boxing, won light-heavyweight titles in both his home country and West Africa.
He has received a great deal of recognition for his efforts to the sport, and colleagues, fans, and sports officials have been paying respect to him for his commitment and influence on boxing in Nigeria and throughout West Africa.
