Nigeria’s Super Eagles rekindled their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the USA on Friday by defeating Rwanda 2-0 in the qualifiers.
Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign was given a boost on Friday night after they defeated Rwanda 2-0.
Nigeria headed into the match having failed to win their first four games in Group C. They were in fifth place after drawing three games and losing one.
Super Eagles needed to get a win against the Amavubi, whom they have failed to defeat in their last two outings, losing one and drawing one.
However, Victor Osimhen’s two first half goals secured a solid victory against the Amavubi on their soil.
With the win, the three-time African champions move up to fourth place in Group C, behind Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin. The group standings were further strained by South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho earlier in the day.
Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the world cup continues as they host the bottom-placed Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.
