The Turkish football association on Thursday fined Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho around 40,000 euros and banned him from four games for the Galatasaray players “jumping like monkeys” remarks he made following an intense Istanbul derby against Galatasaray which ended in a goalless draw.
After the match, Mourinho, 62, said the home bench had been “jumping like monkeys”.
Fenerbahçe responded with their own statement, claiming that their coach’s statements were “completely taken out of context and an attempt was made to deliberately distort them”.
The Turkish Football Federation’s (TFF) disciplinary panel imposed a two-match suspension for his remarks about the fourth referee, as well as two further matches for his attack on the Galatasaray bench. And additionally, he was fined 40,000 euros.
