Chelsea’s terrible run under Enzo Maresca continued following a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday. Filip Jorgensen’s error was pivotal in this defeat.
Enzo Fernandez had given Chelsea the lead early on, but Marco Asensio, a Spaniard on loan, wiped it out after the interval by bundling in from a cross from Marcus Rashford.
As the match was headed for a draw, Villa’s on-loan duo once more came together when Rashford crossed the ball for Asensio to put a volley under Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen, who ought to have done better to save the ball.
Maresca’s team has lost four of their past five games across all competitions. In contrast to the one loss they suffered in the previous five seasons combined, Chelsea has now lost two Premier League games this season despite leading at halftime.
Unai Emery commended both Asensio and Rashford for their contributions in the victory against Chelsea. He also pointed out that integrating new players required rapid adaptation through a lot of fieldwork.
Fortunate Aston Villa claimed all the 3 points leaving Chelsea to return home with nothing and to drop to 6th position on the Premier League table
