Chelsea returned to winning ways and climbed back into the Premier League’s top four after felling Southampton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. The win bolsters their push for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League and eases some pressure on Maresca as it ends a three-match losing streak.

In the early minutes of the match, Chelsea were nervy but after Christopher Nkunku headed in a 24th-minute opener, assisted by Tosin Adarabioyo, the goals started to flow as Pedro Neto and Levi Colwill subsequently put the Blues three up at the break.

Chelsea lost many chances before and after the break but finally at 78th minute, Marc Cucurella found the back of the net as he lashed in a ball from Tyrique George to complete demolition of the visitors who got their 22nd defeat of the season and are relegation bound.

Next Thursday, Chelsea will play the first leg of their UEFA Conference League last-16 match in Copenhagen. A week later, they will face Leicester City.
