A top-tier Bulgarian club has expressed regret for keeping a minute of silence for a former player just to find out he is still alive.
In remembrance of Petko Ganchev, Arda Kardzhali lined up on the center circle and bowed their heads before Sunday’s league match against Levski Sofia. Arda claimed to have been deceived in a Facebook post made before to the conclusion of the game.
The club wrote: “The management of PFC Arda would like to express a huge apology to the former Arda player Petko Ganchev and his relatives after the club received wrong information about his death,”
“We wish Petko Ganchev many more years of good health and to enjoy the success of Arda.” They added.
Many football fans have expressed their displeasure in the club’s brute action.
A fan said: You hear about someone’s death, not even a single phone call to verify or send a delegate to pay a condolence visit to the family. But you’re holding a minute silence just for the sake of optics – Xannadu (Nairaland)
