According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Moscow bombed a boarding school in Ukrainian-occupied Russia where residents were taking refuge and getting ready to leave.
According to the Ukrainian army, the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region, which has been occupied by Ukraine for five months, saw four fatalities and numerous injuries, many of them elderly. It is said that about 80 people were saved from the structure.
According to Zelensky’s post on X, the incident revealed Russia to be “a state devoid of civility”. “This is how Russia wages war – Sudzha, Kursk region, Russian territory, a boarding school with civilians preparing to evacuate,” he stated.
“A bomb dropped from a Russian aircraft. Despite the presence of scores of civilians, they demolished the structure. The general staff of the Ukrainian army said on Telegram that “the strike was carried out on purpose” and that 84 civilians had been rescued, while four persons had died.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed Saturday’s incident, which it called a targeted missile strike, was carried out by Ukraine. Last August, Ukraine surprised Russian border guards by launching a rapid thrust into the Kursk region of Russia.
At the time, the Kyiv government made it apparent that it just intended to use the seized territory as a negotiating chip in upcoming peace talks and had no intention of keeping it.
Zelensky compared Saturday’s strike to “how Russia waged war against Chechnya decades ago. They killed Syrians the same way. Russian bombs destroy Ukrainian homes the same way”.
