Two days ago Gujarat police caught a rapist-killer from Vapi railway station.

What they found next will shake your belief in humanity a little.

On 14th November, a 19 years old girl in Udvada, Gujarat was found dead. Rape was confirmed. Police started investigation.

A bag found at the crime scene gave  some clues about facts of the incident. The bag belonged to a traveller based on what was seen in it.

So, Police started looking for CCTV footage at the railway station where the incident happened.

Based on records of criminals released from jails, Gujarat police found that the man is Rahul alias Karamvir Jat released from Jodhpur Jail.

Rahul belonged to Rohtak, Haryana. 11 cases on him already.

But, police was empty handed. Started looking for suspect on Railway stations.

An informer saw Rahul and informed police at Valsad Railway station. Police caught him on 26 November at the station.

Then he revealed the murders.

Rahul had killed 5 women in 25 days.

In Udvada rape & murder of 19 year old girl, he also sexually assaulted the corpse of girl. Left to eat fruit chat & milk after killing the girl. Returned to rape the corpse again but found people & police on the crime site.

His bag was left there as he planned to return. His plan got spoiled as people found the body already. He hid himself and later walked to a railway station 8 km away.

But that’s not it.

Bengal police was looking for the killer of Saumitra Chatterjee, a 60 year old tabla player. Saumitra was travelling in special coach for handicapped people. She was found dead in train. Money & jewellery taken away.

Rahul confessed of this killing.

First victim of Rahul was in another reserved coach for handicapped people. On 20 October, Rahul raped and killed the woman in Andhra Pradesh.

Another victim was found dead in Karnataka. Modus operandi same. In reserved coach for handicapped people.

In total, there are 5 murders in just 25 days and at least 2 victims were raped. All related to Railways.

4 out of 5 victims were handicapped.

Rahul himself suffers from polio and has a limp.

He started crime from an early age. Used to steal or loot trucks. Worked some odd jobs.

Due to his past experiences with police, Rahul is misleading the police investigation.

This case is extremely scary. So many people send their parents alone in trains thinking it will be safe for them.

But, salute to investigation of @GujaratPolice & @RPF_INDIA.
Really found a needle in haystack.

Hopefully more such unsolved cases on trains and railway stations will be solved with modern tech.

There is a huge chance that Rahul has done it before. Police will find out.

Also, we have forgotten how predators move among us. How our judicial system leaves many such people even after nabbing them.

So, be aware. Be extra careful if you travel solo, especially if you are a woman.

This was a guy who had a police record, left bag full of clues, and police could see him on cameras. There are many who are smart enough to avoid all that.

Never forget we live in India.

Criminals see the world as predators see the prey. In reserved handicapped coach, Rahul saw it easy to kill victims.

Whatever the case, we need way more safety in Railways. We need a big force for that. Crores take the trains daily.

Police could catch Rahul because-

1. He left a bag full of clothes at Udvada crime scene. A jersey from that he was seen wearing in CCTV. That identified him & his movement.

2. He had a police record. Name & address was found in Jail database. Again luck & better use of technology.

3. He had a limp. That made him easier to identify. Most important identification.

4. A hawker on railway station who identified him & informed police. Deserves some award.

5. Rahul returned to Gujarat 12 days later barely 15 km away from Udvada crime scene. Probably did not think police is on lookout.

6. Criminal became too bold and careless. On a killing spree.

7. CCTV quality is now better than earlier. All stations are under surveillance. Criminals haven’t factored this better quality cameras in crimes yet.
