Former Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo has offered some pragmatic advice to fellow Nigerian star Victor Osimhen—take the money now, then chase legacy later.
As speculation continues to swirl around Osimhen’s future, Ighalo believes the 26-year-old striker should seize a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League before making a return to European football. This comes amid reports that Napoli have turned down a €75 million bid from Turkish giants Galatasaray, leaving Osimhen’s next move up in the air.
Speaking during an interview with Echo Room, Ighalo didn’t mince words about the financial opportunity Saudi Arabia offers.
“My advice to Victor Osimhen is to go to Saudi Arabia for two years to make money. Then he can come back to Europe,” he said.

Ighalo’s own career serves as a blueprint. The former Manchester United man spent several seasons in the Chinese Super League—prioritizing financial security—before securing a surprising loan move to Old Trafford at age 30.
“I went to China for three years, then returned to play for Manchester United. All odds were against me—I was 30. Victor is 26 now. In two years, he’ll be 28 and can still play in Europe for another five years if he wants.”
Osimhen at a Crossroads
Osimhen has been in sensational form for Napoli, netting 37 goals in just 41 appearances. Yet despite his on-field success, his long-term future remains uncertain. With several European clubs monitoring the situation and Saudi Arabia’s financial muscle in the background, the Nigerian international faces a big decision.
Saudi Arabia: The New Football Powerhouse?
Ighalo’s comments reflect a growing trend among elite footballers. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kanté have made big-money moves to Saudi Arabia, using the league as both a financial springboard and a career reset button. For many, it’s proving to be a strategic detour—short-term sacrifice for long-term gain.
What Path Will Osimhen Choose?
Will Osimhen follow Ighalo’s example and cash in while he can? Or will he hold out for a marquee move to another top European club? Whatever choice he makes, it’s clear that money, legacy, and timing will all play a part in shaping the next chapter of his career.
