Poem: The New America

The new normal, new America–
fear, prejudice, injustice, chaos.
Nepotism. Not positions for the qualified.
Benefits for the wealthy. The rest, swept away.

Some believe the end is near
they see the signs–
natural disasters, global unrest, the Anti-Christ.
Only God knows for sure.

The devil is chaos
and creates division.
Is that someone we want to revere,
someone we want to emulate and elevate?

I miss the America of my childhood–
not perfect, but sought truth, justice, compassion,
a country connected to the world,
one that appreciated and strived for diversity.

What can we do?
Be the example we want to see.
Find our own inner peace.
Pray, vote, speak up, and remain hopeful.
