Nottingham Forest heavily hammered Brighton at City Ground with seven un-replied goals. Chris Wood scored a hat-trick as The Tricky Trees overpowered Brighton at the City Ground, responding forcefully to their 5-0 loss at Bournemouth the previous Saturday.

In front of their home fans, Forest roared back to victory, recording their biggest-ever Premier League victory over the woeful Seagulls. The loss at Vitality Stadium was their first since early December.

Lewis Dunk accidentally turned Morgan Gibbs-White’s low cross into his own net from close range in the 12th minute, giving Nuno Espirito Santo’s team the lead.

Just after the break, Wood headed home Anthony Elanga’s cross for his 15th Premier League goal of the season, the most he has scored in a single campaign. Gibbs-White had extended the home team’s lead with a glanced header from Elanga’s corner.

Brighton was unfortunate not to score before halftime, as Danny Welbeck’s attempt missed the goalline after hitting the underside of the crossbar, and Yankuba Minteh shot directly at Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels during a one-on-one.

After 64 minutes, Wood tapped in another Elanga delivery to make it 4-0. Seagulls manager Fabian Hurzeler made a quadruple halftime substitution in an attempt to stop the Forest assault.

Five minutes later, Gibbs-White had a fantastic chance to score his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Tariq Lamptey dragged him to the ground.

After Neco Williams grabbed a loose ball deep inside the area and made it six, the 33-year-old sent Bart Verbruggen the wrong way to make it 5-0.

Jota Silva still had time to join in, scoring a low shot in additional time after Verbruggen mishandled his ball. With this victory, Forest is tied for second place with Arsenal.
