The controversy surrounding the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has taken another twist as his father, Joseph Aloba, refuted recent claims made by Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley.
In a video statement, Marley denied having a hand in Mohbad’s troubles or untimely death, insisting he only tried to guide the young artist after discovering his alleged use of illicit substances.
But Mohbad’s father has strongly disagreed, maintaining that his son endured harassment while under Marley’s wing.
“I went to see Naira Marley over some of the things Mohbad had said, and that was all. But later, I personally witnessed other incidents. There were about three people present at the time—two are still alive today. One of them, who worked with Naira Marley, even came to report to me that Marley was beating Mohbad.
When we went to apologise, Marley wasn’t even speaking respectfully. People think I went there to collect money, but life is much more than what I want to eat,” he said.
Financial Disputes Surface
Beyond the allegations of bullying, financial questions have also come to light. Aloba confirmed that Naira Marley once raised concerns about Mohbad channeling payments through accounts that weren’t his own.
“Naira Marley complained to me that Mohbad was collecting money with an account that was not his. I also noticed he once sent me money from a strange account, and I warned him that anything he wanted to give me should come from his personal account. That’s all I know about the account matter,” Aloba explained.
Payments Through Mother-in-Law’s Account?
Adding to the intrigue, Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimo, alleged that the late artist sometimes used his mother-in-law’s account for financial transactions.
“Naira Marley revealed that it was Wunmi’s mother’s account number Mohbad presented for his payments, and nobody is saying anything. By now, I expect the SAN (Senior Advocate of Nigeria) working for Baba Mohbad to have written a petition for that account to be investigated,” she stated.
As investigations into Mohbad’s death and career controversies continue, these revelations have only deepened public debate about what truly happened during his time at Marlian Music.
