Mason Greenwood has opted to close the door on England and has shifted his international allegiance to Jamaica.
Greenwood decided to cut his dreams of adding to his one cap from 2020 after the FA made it plain he would not be considered for selection again. The Three Lions’ position came about as a result of Greenwood’s suspension by Manchester United, his former employer, following charges of attempted rape, assault resulting in actual bodily damage, and controlling and coercive behavior three years prior.
Although Greenwood refuted the accusations, which were later dismissed, it ultimately caused him to leave United; last summer, the striker made a permanent move to Marseille. He has tried to save his career, first on loan in Spain with Getafe and now in France.
Despite his good performances in both Spain and France, it was envisaged that calling him up again would be a risk due to the negative publicity it would generate
To be selected by the now-in-charge former United assistant manager Steve McClaren, Greenwood has now moved to Jamaica and finished the required paperwork. His father was born in Jamaica, hence he is eligible for the Caribbean country.
