The renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, is at the center of a serious aviation controversy that has raised eyebrows within Nigeria’s air travel sector. His alleged disruptive behavior aboard a ValueJet flight on August 5 has not only led to the suspension of two pilots but could also result in him being banned from flying altogether.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded when Kwam 1 was spotted drinking from a flask during the flight. A flight attendant, suspecting it contained alcohol—which is banned on Nigerian flights—politely asked him to hand it over. The musician reportedly refused, insisting it was a prescribed medication.
Things quickly escalated. After the crew decided to deboard him over non-compliance, Kwam 1 allegedly stormed to the front of the aircraft in protest, attempting to prevent the plane from leaving. A video obtained by TheCable showed the singer standing dangerously close to the aircraft on the tarmac alongside ground staff, even as the plane prepared for takeoff.
In a shocking turn, the ValueJet aircraft proceeded to depart while Kwam 1 and others were still near its wings—a move that clearly breached aviation safety protocols.
The following day, August 6, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced that two pilots involved had been suspended. The agency said the pilots initiated takeoff procedures without the necessary clearance, putting ground personnel and others at serious risk.
The NCAA strongly condemned the actions of all parties involved, labeling the incident a reckless violation of both local and international aviation safety standards. The authority also revealed that it is considering placing Kwam 1 on a no-fly list, a rare penalty reserved for individuals considered a threat to air travel safety.
If enforced, the travel restriction could impact Kwam 1’s ability to perform at events both within and outside Nigeria, potentially affecting his career in a major way.
