A late-night building collapse has left one person dead and seven others injured in Kabak village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident happened around midnight on September 6, with authorities blaming weakened structures made worse by days of heavy rainfall.

Confirming the tragedy, Musa Muhammad Hadejia, the council’s Information Officer, revealed that five of the injured are still receiving treatment at a local hospital, while two have already been discharged.
“Seven people sustained serious injuries, and sadly, we lost one person in the incident,” he said, assuring that the local government is monitoring the situation and extending support to the victims.
Chairman of the council, Honourable Muhammad Marma, visited both the site and the victims at the hospital. He expressed his condolences and pledged financial aid to the families affected.
“This is a painful loss for our community,” Marma said. “We stand with the victims and their families. The council has donated ₦500,000 to cover medical expenses for the injured, and an additional ₦100,000 to support the bereaved family.”
Residents described the moment of collapse as chaotic. “I heard a loud crashing noise and then screams,” recalled local resident Auwalu Usman. “When we rushed over, part of the building had completely gone down.”
Authorities have urged residents to ensure their homes are structurally sound, especially during the rainy season. Meanwhile, assessments are ongoing to identify other potentially unsafe buildings in the area to prevent future tragedies.
