A tragic incident has unfolded in the Mayo-Goyi community of Jalingo, Taraba State, where a newly recruited soldier allegedly stabbed a police officer to death during a community dispute.
According to the Taraba State Police Command, the victim, Officer Aaron John, responded to a distress call from residents who were reportedly having a disagreement with the soldier, identified as Dauda Dedan. Unfortunately, while trying to calm the situation, the officer was fatally stabbed.
The suspect is currently on the run, but the Nigerian Army has launched an investigation and assured the police of their commitment to apprehend him.
“We’ve reported the case to the 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and they’ve given us full assurance that the fugitive soldier will be tracked down and made to face justice,” said the Police Public Relations Officer.
He further emphasized that both the army and police are cooperating closely on the case. “We’ve already visited the soldier’s residence, and efforts are ongoing to ensure his arrest. The working relationship between the two security agencies remains strong and intact,” he added.
This shocking event has left the community and security agencies in mourning, as they seek justice for the fallen officer.
