In just one week, Funke Akindele’s recently released movies “Everybody Loves Jenifa” and “Alakada! Bad and Boujee” have caused record ticket sales of almost ₦1 billion in Nigerian theaters.
A record-breaking N1.02 billion worth of tickets were sold in Nigerian theaters between December 20 and 26, 2024, according to data from the Nile Media Entertainment Group.
“We are thrilled to announce today a remarkable achievement: the Nigerian box office has surpassed 1 billion Naira in a single week in 2024,” the independent entertainment firm said.

With 153,800 tickets sold as of December 26 and N782.8 million in 14 days, Funke Akindele’s movie “Everyone Loves Jenifa” is on pace to surpass the N1 billion naira milestone in fewer days than her previous record-breaking film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which sold one billion tickets in 21 days.
The film achieved this milestone in just 12 days, making it the fastest Nollywood film to gross N500 million.
Across nine worldwide markets, including the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia, the film made $100,000 on its first weekend of release. With ticket sales of N256.4 million, December 26 was the highest-grossing day in movie office history, according to a breakdown of the week’s figures.
It was the third-highest day for ticket sales, with over 47,500 tickets sold, behind 55,449 on December 26, 2019, and 52,563 on December 26, 2018.

“Everybody Loves Jenifa” carried on its remarkable run, breaking its previous record of N89.8 million and becoming the first film to earn over N100 million in a single day. During the week, eight titles made over N5 million, six made over N10 million, five made over N15 million, and four flew over N25 million in a single day.
With N426.9 million, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” “Mufasa,” “Alakada: B&B,” “The Waiter,” and “Moana 2” earning N173 million, N127.3 million, N104.2 million, and N52.7 million, respectively, lead the week’s ticket sales performance, according to industry data from the Nigerian Box Office X page.
The N1.02 billion sum, according to Nile Media, is a testament to the film industry’s tenacity, inventiveness, and devotion. It claimed to be evidence that viewers are interested in connecting with us, that our stories are important, and that we can succeed as a team.
