Imo Police Arrest 2,785 Suspects, Dismantle Criminal Syndicates in Major Crackdown

In a sweeping security operation that spanned six months, the Imo State Police Command has arrested 2,785 suspects linked to serious crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, child trafficking, cultism, and terrorism.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma confirmed the development while showcasing a large cache of recovered arms. Among the seized weapons were 14 AK-47 rifles, 20 pump-action shotguns, rocket launchers, grenades, and gas-cylinder bombs — highlighting the growing sophistication of criminal elements in the state.

High-Profile Arrests

Notable apprehensions include:

– Members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN, accused of operating a hideout in Njaba LGA.

– Suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder of one Emmanuel Oguzie, allegedly under the directive of an ESN commander known as “Asari.”

– Cultist Wisdom Ogbonna, wanted for over two years in connection with a fatal stabbing in Orlu.

– Two kidnappers arrested after collecting a ₦2.2 million ransom and holding their victim for four days in Ikeduru.

Rescues & Recoveries

The operation also led to the rescue of 58 kidnapped persons and the recovery of 42 trafficked children, all of whom have been reunited with their families.

Tactical Operations

The arrests were made following tip-offs, strategic raids, and intelligence-led operations carried out by anti-kidnapping units, tactical squads, and divisional commands. Hideouts across Njaba, Orlu, Ikeduru, and other parts of the state were dismantled.

Government Response

Authorities have praised the cooperation between citizens and law enforcement, urging continued support and vigilance. The Commissioner vowed to sustain the offensive against all criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the state.
