The head of NDLEA conveyed gratitude to the French government for their assistance and collaboration. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received assurances from the French government that it will get increased assistance and cooperation in the battle against drug misuse and trafficking.

During a courtesy visit to the NDLEA in Abuja on Saturday, Phillipe Crespo, the French Police Attaché in Nigeria, provided the assurance.

The visit came after the Strike Force Unit officers at the NDLEA Academy in Jos completed their third special operations training in the previous two years.

Speaking during the tour, Crespo praised Buba Marwa, the CEO of NDLEA, for the friendly welcome the French team always received.

In his resolute attempt to combat the evils of substance misuse and illegal drug trafficking in Nigeria, he also praised Marwa’s readiness to work with both domestic and foreign partners.

He claimed that the NDLEA’s efforts were successful in protecting communities abroad as well as Nigerians in Nigerian cities. He said that this was due to the agency’s interdiction activities, which had resulted in the massive interception of various illegal drug shipments bound for Europe and other countries.

But in the coming year, he suggested that the expanding collaboration be recorded in a memorandum of understanding. The head of the NDLEA thanked the French government for its cooperation and assistance during his speech.

When I accepted an offer to visit RAID’s headquarters in France in 2022 and requested this kind of instruction, I had no idea it would arrive so quickly and with such consistency.

A group of professionals was dispatched shortly after that visit to teach our staff, and I’m happy that this is the third such exercise,” he said.

Since the drug problem is so widespread, we need international cooperation, partnerships, and all the knowledge we can gather to take on the drug cartels and stop their operations, which directly endanger the public’s health and the security of nations all over the world.

Marwa added, “Therefore, it is a source of great satisfaction that our cooperation is expanding not only at the level of drug law enforcement, but also between our two leaders, Presidents Bola Tinubu and Emmanuel Macron, as well as our governments and nations. This will undoubtedly benefit both parties greatly.”
