Erik ten Hag is poised to return to football management, having reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. This development comes seven months after his departure from Manchester United in October 2024.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag has accepted Leverkusen’s proposal and prioritized their offer over a potential return to Ajax, where he previously enjoyed significant success. While the final decision rests with the club, Ten Hag has expressed his readiness to take on the role.
Leverkusen is seeking a successor to Xabi Alonso, who is expected to take over at Real Madrid following a triumphant, unbeaten Bundesliga season .
Ten Hag’s managerial career includes notable achievements, such as leading Ajax to three Eredivisie titles and a UEFA Champions League semi-final appearance in the 2018–19 season. His tactical acumen and experience in developing young talent make him a fitting choice for Leverkusen as they aim to build on their recent success.
While the agreement is not yet official, the appointment is anticipated to be confirmed soon, marking Ten Hag’s return to the Bundesliga, where he previously managed Bayern Munich II from 2013 to 2015.
