Lagos High Court has sentenced Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the horrific murder of fashion designer Bamise Ayanwola, age 22.

On Friday, May 2, 2025, Justice Sherifat Sonaike delivered the ruling at the court’s Tafawa Balewa Square division, bringing a dramatic conclusion to a case that sparked public indignation.

The Lagos State Government charged Ominikoron, 47, with four counts in March 2022, including alleged rape, conspiracy sexual assault, and murder.

The indictment states that the murder happened on February 26, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., close to the Lekki-Ajah Conservation Expressway in Lagos.

Ominikoron used force to have sex with Bamise and then killed her, according to the prosecution, after conspiring with other people who are currently at large. The defendant entered a not guilty plea to the offense.

However, the convicted individual testified in court earlier in the trial that he had unlawfully picked up Bamise at the Chevron bus stop on his way back to Oshodi after offloading passengers on the Oshodi-Ajah route at approximately 8 p.m. that day.
