Adesewa (A short fictional story)

There once lived a maiden (an elegance personified), many moons ago in Òyè village. Beauty, together with meekness was her natural feature. Being the only daughter of the king, she didn’t raise her shoulders up in pride. Instead, her comeliness attracted many friends, but wasn’t opened to gossips and concupiscence.

Some other maidens’ beauties stole young men of Òyè with marvels, but hers outwitted them all. “I wish my dirty and wayward daughters are like this beaut”. Someone said.
“Before we can find a bird like egret, we shall reach beyond the firmament. Adesewa’s beauty is far beyond compare”. Another person added.

Often, wars escalated among the young men. At least, twenty intimate friends became parted foes; others entangled in incessant headlocks. All in view to marrying Adesewa.
The royal sons of the neighboring villages weren’t left out in the fight. Two villages fought themselves to a gory end, and many people died. Nevertheless, chants of praise await the lucky man.

“That Poverty isn’t the right person for you; you must marry an opulent man! “ King Adekanmi angrily said.
“The decision of love is taken by heart! You can’t decide for me in this matter. Though Adigun is from a poor home, yet he’s not a deadbeat”. Adesewa retorted.
“I’m a product of your choice; let her marry the man of her heart”. The queen interfered. Her interference flamed the whole matter.

Despite the storms, both lovers were like a snail and its shell. The fire of their rapport razed the marketplace into ashes of amazement. When the fame got to palace, Adekanmi became furious. Immediately, he sent his guards to pound Adigun in his dwelling (He was battered and nakedly expatriated).

When Adesewa heard, she wailed profusely and vowed to remain unmarried for the rest of her life.
