A Pakistan man admitted to killing his daughter because he didn’t like what she posted on TikTok. On Tuesday, a man named Anwar ul-Haq shot and killed her daughter on a street in Quetta, Balochistan, according to Pakistani news agency Geo News.
The father first claimed during his interrogation that his daughter, who was born in the United States, had been shot and killed by an unidentified shooter. He did finally acknowledge his wrongdoings, though.
A police investigator named Zohaib Mohsin told local reporters, “Our investigation so far has found that the family had an objection to her dressing, lifestyle, and social gathering.” We have her phone. The item is secured. We’re looking into everything, including honor killing,” he continued.
The family has been in the United States for almost 25 years, and they recently moved back to the Balochistan region, according to the report. According to the officials, the suspect is a citizen of the United States. When his daughter moved to the United States, Haq reportedly told authorities that she started posting “objectionable” content on the social networking site TikTok, according to Geo News.
Uncle was detained in connection with the situation.
Haq added that after the family returned to Pakistan, his daughter kept posting “obscene” films on the website. Additionally, police reported that they had detained the 15-year-old’s uncle in relation to his murder. The case is presently being investigated, and Haq was charged with murder.
The family, meanwhile, has refrained from commenting on the sad event. It is important to remember that TikTok is used by over 54 million individuals in Pakistan. Over the course of a few years, the Pakistani government has frequently banned the app and demanded content control.
The conservative culture in Pakistan is well-known for criticizing what it refers to as “obscene content” on social media. Some of the platforms have recently been observed censoring specific content in response to requests from Pakistani authorities.
Currently, more than 1,000 women in Pakistan are murdered annually by family members or members of the community. Many of them have frequently been charged with destroying the family’s “honor.” Eloping, sharing stuff on social media, mingling with men, and any other transgression of conservative ideals toward women are some of the reasons why women have been slain in Pakistan.
