A 17-year-old girl from a Daadab refugee camp was brutally killed and her body burned after she refused to marry a 55-year-old man.
The adolescent was murdered because he refused to comply with the 55-year-old man’s demands. In the Daagale refugee camp, she had been removed from her home and forced into an arranged marriage.
She was afraid as she got to her soon-to-be husband’s house. Because of her disobedience, she was beaten till she passed away after 27 days of mistreatment.
Just before she passed away, she transmitted a terrifying audio recording detailing the abuse she had endured from the 55-year-old man ever since she moved in with him.
After being tortured nonstop since moving in with the man, she called her mother in anguish on Saturday, March 22, 2025, fearing for her life.
Her family was notified of her passing by a relative on the next phone call. At around two in the morning, her mother said she got a call telling her that her daughter had been tortured, put on a mattress, and burned.
Many Kenyans are demanding justice in response to this tragedy, which has sparked uproar on social media.
